NVQ Level 2 Children's Care, Learning and Development
(previously Early Years Care and Education)
Who is the course suitable for?
Learners interested in a childcare career willing to work under supervision with children and young people aged 0 to 16 years. The work environment may be a nursery, pre-school, after-school club, creche or any school. FNTC offers a placement / employment service for potential learners not currently employed. To complete this award you need to be working with children.
What's involved?
CCLD is made up of seven units, which relate to various areas of childcare work. There are six core units, which all students must complete, and one option unit which best suites your job role.
Mandatory units
- 201 Contribute to positive relationships
- 202 Help keep children safe
- 203 Support children's development
- 204 Use support to develop own practice in children's care learning and development
- 205 Prepare and maintain environments to meet children's needs
- 206 Support children's play and learning.
How long will it take to achieve?
This depends on motivation and commitment, however it is scheduled for delivery over 1 year with classes for the knowledge and understanding on alternate Thursday afternoons or alternate Wednesday evenings.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed by an FNTC assessor in the workplace.
Progression
This could be onto the level 3 CCLD award, a level 3 Diploma in Childcare (DCE) or the level 3 Certificate for teaching assistants (CTA3).
Fees
FNTC has access to government funding through the learning and skills council dependent on the time of the year. You need to be 16 to 25 years old to qualify for government funded training.
