NVQ Level 3 Children's Care, Learning and Development
(formerly Early Years Care and Education)
Who is the course suitable for?
Learners capable of working independently within a childcare environment. It offers progression from level 2. Ideally learners must be employed, however, the recruitment officer may have access to nursery vacancies and arrange an interview. A place on this course is dependent on the successful completion of a thorough initial assessment process.
What's involved?
The course is made up of nine units, which relate to various areas of childcare work. There are five mandatory units and four option units best suiting learner responsibilities and job role.
Mandatory units
- 301 Develop positive relationships
- 302 Develop and maintain a healthy, safe and secure environment for children
- 303 Promote children's development
- 304 Reflect on and develop good practice
- 305 Protect and promote children's rights
How long will it take to achieve?
This depends on motivation and commitment, however it is scheduled for delivery over 2 years with classes for the knowledge and understanding on alternate Wednesday evenings or one Saturday a month.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed by an FNTC assessor in the workplace.
Progression
This could be onto university for a Foundation in Early Childhood studies or the level 4 CCLD award. You must be a manager or advanced practitioner to embark on the level 4 award.
Fees
FNTC has access to government funding through the learning and skills council dependent on the time of the year. You need to be 16 to 25 years old to qualify for government funded training. Funding is limited at level 3. Please apply early to avoid disappointment.
