NVQ in Health and Social Care Level 3
Who is the course for?
People working in a care setting who may be providing support to other staff. This can be in either the private, public or voluntary sector.
What entry qualifications do you need?
No formal qualifications required but candidates are expected to have sufficient literacy and numeracy skills (e.g. GCSE grade C or equivalent).
What does the course cover?
The course consists of 8 units with 4 Mandatory Units, and a further 4 units chosen from the Optional Units.
Group A - Mandatory units
- Unit HSC31 - Promote effective communication for and about individuals
- Unit HSC32 - Promote, monitor and maintain health, safety and security in the working environment
- Unit HSC33 - Reflect on and develop your practice
- Unit HSC34 - Promote the wellbeing and protection of children and young people
- Unit HSC35 - Promote choice, wellbeing and the protection of all individuals
Group B - Optional units
- Unit HSC3100 - Participate in inter-disciplinary team working to support individuals
- Unit HSC3103 - Contribute to raising awareness of health issues
- Unit HSC386 - Assist in the Transfer of Individuals between Agencies and Services
- Unit HSC387 - Work in collaboration with carers in the caring role
- Unit HSC388 - Relate to families, parents and carers
- Unit HSC389 - Work with carers, families and key people to maintain contact with individuals

How will you be assessed?
An approved assessor will visit you in your workplace to assess your practical competence, knowledge and understanding. You will need to submit a portfolio to show your competence in all areas of the award.
What other qualifications can you do when you finish this award?
On completion of this programme candidates can progress to NVQ level 4 in Health & Social Care if their job role is sufficient to warrant the extra responsibility at a managerial level.
Fees
FNTC has access to government funding through the learning and skills council dependent on the time of the year. You need to be 16 to 25 years old to qualify for government funded training. Please apply early to avoid disappointment.
