The Manager at FNTC Partner St Osmund’s Preschool has achieved national recognition.
The Salisbury based pre-school has been recognised for its achievement with bilingual children at a national conference in London organised by the Department for Education.
St Osmund’s preschool manager, Trudy Surman, was invited to join a panel of experts to address The Future of Inclusive Childcare conference in London on Thursday.
The pre-school caters for children aged 2 to 5 of whom more than half do not speak English as their first language. The setting was graded outstanding at its last Ofsted inspection in 2014.
Ms Surman told The Salisbury Journal : “With at least 12 different languages spoken by our children the Department for Education were very interested to learn how well we managed and what measures we put in place to promote their development. We’ve had to be particularly creative because neither the government nor local authority provide us with any additional financial support. So on top of doing a lot of extensive research into teaching bi-lingual children we’ve carried out a lot of fundraising to meet the extra costs involved.”
